I’m starting a cassette label appropriately called Go Freaks Go!
The name comes from a Brainiac song from the 7″ of the same. I have a loose release schedule, everything will be limited run and will primarily focus on obscure bands from the past, or current, hard to digest bands/bands that don’t have another avenue to do this.
Why a cassette label? Well, here’s why. Cassettes are awful pieces of shit, but they’re super cheap to make and you can run off copies in your bedroom. People like physical goods, they like Bandcamp pages and MP3 downloads, so this gives them something to look forward to in the mail, gives me something to do while my daughter naps and most importantly, helps the kids get their music out into the world. There are very few feelings better than holding the fruits of your labor in your own grubby hands.
Would I prefer doing vinyl? Of course I would. Who wouldn’t? Unfortunately the vampires in the music industry have co-opted and corrupted record store day, backing up pressing plants upwards of a year in some cases. I repeat — I can make cassettes myself. YOU can make cassettes yourselves. The power is in your hands. Be creative and make cool things. The world needs creativity now more than ever.
