GFG Featured Band: Teenage Jesus & the Jerks

Fronted by Lydia Lunch, who was an NYC punk, no wave and goth icon.  Teenage Jesus & the Jerks were contemporaries of bands like DNA (not to be confused with England’s DNA who did the remix of the Suzanne Vega song, Tom’s Diner), Mars (not to be confused with the British artist M|A|R|R|S who wrote the song Pump Up the Volume) and Contortions (who featured James Chance of Teenage Jesus and the Jerks).  As far as no wave bands go, TJ&TJ are one of my fav’s by far.  Aside from Sonic Youth, they were probably (at least in my bullshit opinion) a band that influenced a huge chunk of my favorite 90’s noise rock bands.  There’s a healthy dose of this in everything from Nirvana to Brainiac to the entire Skin Graft scene.

This is probably a great place to start with no wave (unless you can find a copy of the No New York compilation) and this is (as the title implies) everything they released.
